For the 2015 London Design festival Tom Dixon hosted a pop-up department store called MULTIPLEX at Old Selfridges Hotel, which allowed for an immersive and multi-sensory exploration into how the future of retail may one day be. Visitors were able to discover an eclectic mix of services and unique products from many industries as well as broadening their experiences through the hosted events, installations and interventions.
Full Flare Audio PA system hire, Backline hire and event lighting supplied by ACE Bros
Tom Dixon mentioned that “the high streets are fighting a losing battle against the shift to online shopping, while eyewatering rents for prime locations squeeze traditional stores even further. It is time to radically rethink how these spaces can become relevant again in a digitally-defined future”. We agree and it was great to see the Old Selfridges Hotel become a multiplex of retail, entertainment and inspiration. To celebrate the MULTIPLEX showcase and to thank collaborating brands at the VIP after party, Tom Dixon performed with band ROUGH albeit a slighty modified linuep and guest Billie Ray Martin.
Flare Audio X3A fit perfectly with the aesthetic and ethos of MULTIPLEX
Undoubtly this was another event for our scrap book thanks to the unusual setting featuring a stage that was not short on space blankets and futuristic vibes. The PA system hire package supplied for this occassion featured the Flare Audio X3A, a 3-way full range loudspeaker system. Revolutionary design making use of machined aerospace aluminium plates and producing very high definition audio, the Flare Audio X3A was right at home with the aesthetic and ethos of MULTIPLEX.
What the future holds we can’t say for sure, but we predict that mirror balls will always be popular
The complete front of house Flare Audio sound system was powered by LAB.Gruppen PLM amplification and mixed with an Allen & Heath digital mixing console. We also supplied full backline hire for Tom Dixon along with technical crew and the event lighting. What worked well here with the LED lights hired, was the use of varying white light colour temperatures to reflect off the metallic shiny surfaces and of course a majestic mirror ball.
